A Brave Man

Anni Wickham

Only five percent of my clients are men. This may not surprise you, but considering that men who work in formal suits, often spend more on these investment pieces than women - maybe more men should be thinking about spending £99 on a colour analysis session to make sure that they are looking their best at work. Black is such a standard in suiting, and yet for many men black will make them look tired, washed out and older - not really what you expect for investing hundreds of pounds in your suits which you will wear and wear and wear.

The men I have analysed have all been straight and their women have been around - not necessarily for the whole session, but always for the final choice of colours. I am writing this blog about Jim who received his Colour Analysis session as part of his Christmas present from his partner. Jim had his own uniform for work and casualwear - Black suits, white shirts and a tie with maybe a hint of a stripe in a colour for work, and black or white T shirts with jeans and a jacket for home. The reason Jim is particularly brave, is that he is going to let me use his photos - YES!! We spent two hours together, which included a relaxed briefing session from him on what he wanted to achieve from the session over some homemade pastries and coffee.

The first from the session shows colours for suits and the second highlight colours for T shirts, jumpers, ties, linen casual shirts, scarves …

We found that black was not actually the most flattering of colours for a suit for Jim -his natural features do not have any that are as deep as black. What looked much better was charcoal and navy. For summer a lighter navy was great. With these colours for suits we chose white, ice blue and ice pink - “I don’t wear pink” said Jim, and I suspected he never would.

We found blues and surprising for Jim teals that really highlighted his startling blue eyes, a magenta and, purple as contrasts and a silver that perfectly matched his beard. The session was a success, Jim went home and sent me a thank you text particularly mentioning the pastries. I expected to hear no more - so was absolutely delighted when three months later I got a message with photos of Jim’s latest purchases for work.

This is one of those moments when a job that I love, becomes so rewarding. Thank you Jim for letting me share these photos.
